Car window tints offers privacy and UV protection, but assess your skills before taking on this project yourself: At the very least, you’d better be good at measuring and cutting. This is a precision job but can be done by almost everybody.

Instructions

1: For car window tint in 15 steps you will need the following tools and materials:

tinting film, an X-Acto knife, razors, a blow dryer or heat gun, 4-inch squeegees, small sponges, a 4-inch hard card , a bone tool, and a spray bottle filled with a mixture of dishwashing soap and water.

2:
Cut the film in the shape of the windows. Set cutouts aside on a glass board or an area devoted to cut film. This can be done easily by using the outside of the car window as a template.

3: Spray the side window with the soap and water mixture.

4: Use a razor to go over the side window to remove any residue.

5: Use a 4-inch squeegee to get rid of any residue from top to bottom. Paste the residue out of the film.

6: Apply the tint to the side window. Leave 1/4 inch to 1/16 inch from the top edge of the window without tint. This will be covered when the window and door are closed. This step is very important with car window tint in 15 steps

7: Push the tint below the inner rubber seals of the window.

8: Use the card to make sure that the tint goes into all the corners.

9: Take a blow dryer in one hand and a squeegee in the other, and heat from the top on one side, working the tint with the squeegee on the other side in a horizontal motion. This should get out any remaining moisture from between the film and glass. This ensures that the film is cleanly stuck.

10: Use the same system to apply the tint film to the front window.

11: Follow steps 3 and 5 in applying the film to the back window.

12: Count the number of defroster heater lines on the back window.

13: Cut the rear window film into the required number of panels.

14: Place the first panel on the bottom, the second panel on top of the first, the third panel on top of the second and so on. Identify the heater line where two panels overlap.

15: Trim the film from over the defroster lines.

And there you have it…You have successfully used CAR WINDOW TINT with 15 simple steps to add a whole new feel and look to your car.

It could not be any easier than this!

Auto detailing can be a more difficult and complex process than what its simple name implies. Many car washing companies make use of multiple cleaning machines for carrying out this cleaning task.

A vehicle has various types of surfaces inside and outside with varying levels of hardness. One cannot use a single cleaning machine to clean all types of surfaces. This article deals with the effective use of different types of cleaning machines, namely carpet cleaners, pressure washers, and steam cleaners, when auto detailing.

Carpet Cleaners
Carpet cleaning machines are not suitable for cleaning hard surfaces. For that reason, these are used only for cleaning the soft interior surfaces of vehicles. Carpet cleaners work by injecting a solution that contains water and a cleaning agent into mats, carpets and seat upholstery.

Surfaces can also be pretreated with a cleaning solution, which is then allowed some time to soak in. This allows the solution to work on the surface and break or weaken the bond between the surface and dirt. The next step is agitation of the surface.

Carpet cleaning machines are equipped with wands, which operators use to agitate and remove dirt and grime from deep within surfaces. When finished, the carpet cleaning machine then extracts the dirt residue, leaving the surface clean.

One important thing to note when using carpet cleaning machines for auto detailing is to try separate carpet and upholstery wands. Using separate wands would make the cleaning process faster and more efficient.

Heated carpet cleaners are best suited for auto detailing. Modern carpet cleaning equipment can provide an output temperature of 210°F. It would be better to use machines equipped with low flow technology, which allows carpets to dry in as little as two hours. Both these features help considerably in reducing the drying time of the mats, carpets and seat upholstery surfaces.

Pressure Washers
There are specialized pressure washers for car detailing business operations. Pressure washers for use as car wash equipment should have low output pressure – 1500 psi or less. Machines having a higher pressure level than this are not suitable for the cleaning of vehicles, as they can damage and dent metal surfaces.

Pressure washers are used mainly for cleaning the hard surfaces of automobiles, such as body, engine components, and other exterior metal parts. There are certain things to consider when using pressure washers as car wash equipment.

The first thing is flow rate. Flow rate is the quantity of water passed emitted by the machine as expressed in gallons per minute (GPM). For a car detailing business, operators often prefer low flow rates. Low flow rate means less water is passed to the surface, resulting in less waste water disposal fees and less water use in general.

Steam Cleaners
Steam cleaners, despite their high output temperature, can also be used for auto detailing vehicle interiors. The main advantage of portable steam cleaners is that these can be used to clean hard surfaces as well as to spot clean mats and carpets during the mobile car wash process. Steam cleaners are not recommended for cleaning the exterior of a vehicle.

Tires do not wear evenly and it is preferable to take steps to ensure that all four tires wear at an even rate. In this way it is possible to extend the overall life of a single set of tires. Not only will the tires last longer, but the vehicle will perform better and the safety of the passengers will be better protected.

There are many reasons why tires wear at different rates. When a vehicle turns, for example, more pressure is placed upon the front tires, especially the one facing the direction of the turn. Front wheel drive vehicles are especially said to place tremendous pressure on the front wheels, causing them to wear much quicker than the rear ones. Braking also has an effect. There is also a distinct difference between the weight distribution on the front and back tires. Mechanical problems can also cause uneven wear. For example, any wheel that is out of alignment will wear much faster than the others. Over or under inflation may also have an effect. All of these factors can be negated by rotating the wheels from time to time.

Most manufacturers recommend that this practice should be executed after a certain distance has been covered. Not only does it help to prevent uneven wear if the tires, but it can most certainly even have a positive influence upon the road holding, handling and traction of the vehicle.

There are several schools of thought when it comes to the question of how exactly and how often this procedure should be performed. Most manufacturers provide guidelines and it may be wise to ask the advice of a reputable dealer. It seems that the most common answer is that the procedure should be performed roughly every twelve thousand kilometers.

Traditionally, the rearward cross method has been favored. This involves swapping the front and back wheels on each side of the car. The left front wheel goes to the left back and vice versa. In recent years, however, experts have come to recommend the X pattern. In this instance, the wheels are crossed back to front. For example, the left front wheel is placed at the right back and the right front wheel at the left back and vice versa. This method, when performed regularly, is said to ensure the best chance for an even wear.

Experts agree that the methods described above may be beneficial for all wheel drive and rear wheel drive vehicles, but that a different technique is necessary for front wheel drive cars. For these vehicles, the forward cross technique is recommended. This is because front wheel drive vehicles places particularly harsh demands on the front wheels. This method involves moving the back wheels to the front, but in a cross pattern. The left back wheel goes to the front right and the right back wheel goes to the left in the front. The two front wheels do not cross. The left wheel in the front goes to the left at the back of the car and the wheel in the front right side goes to the right back.

Detractors argue that there is little point in trying to ensure that all the tires wear simultaneously and at the same rate. They also point out that this practice necessitate that a complete set of wheels to be bought at a time, something not all car owners can afford. It is furthermore argued that it is best and safest to have the best tires at the rear, regardless of whether the car is front or rear wheel drive.

Yet many experts maintain that vehicles offer better handling when all the wheels are in the same condition. They admit that the replacement of all the wheels at the same time may prove to be an expensive exercise, but prudent automobile owners will certainly be able to plan for the periodic purchase of new tires so that a full set is available when it becomes necessary to replace the set.

When reviewing the various views, it seems as if tire rotation can only be beneficial. The practice allows for even wear on all the wheels, resulting in better handling and improved safety. Luckily, it is easy to perform this simple task at home by using only the tools that are supplied with the vehicle and that is used to change a flat tire.

Canadian winters can be rather harsh – not only on the roadways, but also on vehicles. No matter what kind of winter conditions you plan on driving in this year, there are some essential steps to winterizing your car that all drivers need to know about. From having the right oil in your car, to having an emergency kit that’s suitable to help you withstand freezing temperatures, there are plenty of things that you can do today to start winterizing your car.

1. Check the Windshield Wiper Blades.

Have you ever been caught in the middle of a downpour only to discover that your windshield wiper blades are worn out? Tough winter conditions can wear blades out even faster, as the blades travel back and forth quickly over sleet and ice that accumulates on your windshield. Therefore, make sure that you start the winter season off with a sturdy pair of blades and always have an extra pair on hand – especially if you live in the northernmost regions where ice can form on the windshield in a matter of seconds.

2. Oil Up.

Every car requires a specific type of oil in order to run properly. However, each car also may require a different type of oil for different climates. Check your owner’s manual to make sure that your engine is loaded with the proper oil to help the car run smoothly in freezing conditions

3. Go Over the Belts and Hoses.

Unless you have experience checking your own belts and hoses, you’ll probably need to have a mechanic look over all of your belts and hoses to make sure they are ready for freezing weather. Remember: cold weather can cause cracks and brittleness in your belts and hoses, so you may need to check them several times during the winter season.

4. Gotta Have the Antifreeze.

It should probably go unsaid that every engine needs to have the antifreeze compartment full as it heads into the winter season. Winterizing your car would not be complete without topping up the antifreeze.

5. Always Have an Emergency Kit Available.

You may not expect to travel into Canada’s back roads this winter, but it is still important that you have an emergency kit on standby in case something happens…even if you’re not travelling far. This kit should include items to address your bodily needs such as blankets, gloves, a warm hat, water and a change of clothes, and well as items for your car maintenance, such as jumper cables, flares, a flashlight, shovel, cat litter (for getting out of icy situations), and maybe even tire chains. You’ll glad you had it in case the unpredictable happens!

Contact us today or anytime you’re ready to start winterizing your car. We’re happy to check your engine to make sure your fluids, belts, and other necessary components are functioning properly. We can also help you find all of the emergency kit items you will need to stay safe this winter.

A new wave of Scion products could redefine a brand that has consisted of boxy hatchbacks and a lone sporty coupe.

The launch of the iQ minicar reflects what executives call “the new urbanism” of young buyers. And the arrival of the FR-S rear-drive performance coupe will raise Scion’s pricing, giving tC owners an aspirational vehicle.

But what happens to the two boxy vehicles, the xD and the xB? If Scion stuck to its short product cadences, as planned, they both would have been redesigned by now.

iQ: The three-occupant minicar arrives this fall, riding on a wheelbase 1 foot shorter than a Fiat 500. It is Toyota’s first application of its 1.3-liter, 94-hp inline-four-cylinder, teamed with a continuously variable transmission. The iQ is priced just under $16,000 and comes with many standard features and 11 airbags. Its 13-foot turning circle will make it an urban favorite.

xB: Scion would have replaced the boxy hatchback in the spring of 2011 if it were on the traditional four-year cycle. Scion boss Jack Hollis says the existing model may stay around for a few years even if volume is low. Future development of Toyota’s home-market Rumion could provide clues about the xB’s successor.

xD: The base-model hatchback should be replaced in the spring of 2012 if it’s on a five-year cycle. It shares a platform with the Japan-market ist, but there is talk that Toyota may kill the Ist. That means the new product might be derived from the redesigned and more expensive Yaris platform.

tC: The sport coupe was redesigned in the summer of 2010.

FR-S: The rear-wheel-drive sporty coupe will be Scion’s flagship when it arrives in the spring of 2012. The FR-S is powered by a 200-hp, 2.0-liter boxer-four engine from Subaru. It will ride on a 101.2-inch wheelbase and have an overall length of 168.2 inches. The price will start around $22,000, pricey for a Scion.

Mini pickup: The A-BAT concept is not dead; Scion wants it. This would be the nonhybrid version of the A-BAT, while Toyota would get a less stylized hybrid under the Prius banner. Likely combining RAV4 and Prius parts, the pickup would be more of a parcel carrier than a cargo hauler. Expect it in the 2014 model year.

Keeping one’s car clean is often viewed as a chore or something that is time-consuming and laborious. For people out there who do not enjoy washing and taking care of the vehicle, there are ten car cleaning tips that will help to make this process go easier, make the car look fantastic, and will help to keep it cleaner between regular cleanings.

1. The first step in keeping the car clean would be to unsure that trash and items get taken out of the car regularly. Trash should not be left in the back seat for days at a time. If there is a bag from a fast food restaurant, it should be thrown out that day. This will cut down on the cleaning time where a thorough job is done.

2. Car mats in the car will help to collect water, mud and debris. In between regular cleanings, these mats can be quickly and easily shaken out to keep the dirt out of the car.

3. The trunk and back seat of the car is often a collection place for books, jackets and more. Keeping a small box or bag in the back where a few items can be stores can keep things organized and in one place.

4. When doing a full cleaning of the car, the use of a protecting spray that cleans and treats the dash is recommended. One recommendation would be to not use this on the steering wheel as it can make it slippery and potentially dangerous.

5. A crevice tool for the vacuum is necessary when it comes to getting into the areas between the seats and the console. Otherwise, dirt will be left behind.

6. If the car has leather seats, it is a good idea to use a liquid leather product that is designed to treat and maintain. This will aid in preventing cracked seats.

7. On the outside of the car, using a combination wash and wax product will save considerable time.

8. To avoid getting any water spots on the car, towel drying should be done with a soft and lint free towel.

9. Tires should receive an application of tire spray. These sprays usually should sit on the tire for a few minutes before being wiped off. This will give the tires a nice shine to them.

10. Finally, an air freshener should be placed in the car or one should be sprayed in the interior.

By With Ian Harwood, The Province

The 2011 Scion xB is the customizer’s dream. It is a unique vehicle right out of the box, and once customize it, you have a vehicle that is a distinct as you are.

LOOKS

Considering the huge success the Scion brand has had in the U.S. for the past eight years, I’m surprised it took this long to bring them north of the 49th.

The xB is a four-door crossovertype vehicle that has a look all its own. The roof line looks like it has been chopped and the front bumper has an extended look with two large side openings that act as cooling vents. The headlights are projector beams and the Scion emblem is recessed into the grille. Side marker lights are integrated into the side mirrors. The windows are factory tinted, so resist the temptation to tint them any further unless you like paying fines.

IN THE CAB

Like all good customized vehicles, the attention to detail is important. The xB is no exception. The illuminated gauge cluster features an analog tachometer, fuel and engine temperature gauges, and the Scion driver monitor system that gives specific details including fuel economy, average speed, range and trip time. Sound is also important, so Scion doesn’t mess around. Standard is a Pioneer six-speaker audio system, with AM/ FM/CD, MP3/WMA/AAC capability with auxiliary port with USB. There’s also an optional 200-watt premium Alpine audio system available with RCA outlets to add external amps and subwoofers.

SAFETY FIRST

Plenty of airbags, including dual stage driver and passenger, front seat mounted side, and front and rear side curtain. There is also a front tow hook, child protector rear door locks, engine immobilizer, remote fuel lid release, and security indicator.

POWER

The sole engine is a 2.4-litre, 4-cylinder aluminum alloy engine with 158 horsepower and 162 lbs.-ft of torque. There is a choice between a 5-speed manual transmission and a 4-speed automatic transmission.

PUMP FREQUENCY

9.5/7.2L/100 km (city/highway)

WARRANTY SUPPORT

Basic 60,000 km/36 months

Powertrain 100,000 km/60 months

Corrosion Perforation Unlimited km/ 60 months

ROADWORTHY

The Scion xB is quick and agile and is a lot of fun to drive. With a few accessory upgrades from Toyota racing development (TRD), such as lowering coils and high performance sway bars, it could be perfect to take out to the track at Mission speedway.

Toyota announced a Canadian Tuner Challenge earlier this year, in which teams were asked to submit designs for the ultimate customized 2011 Scion vehicle. Three teams across Canada were selected including SR Auto Group of Richmond. Each team received a new 2011 Scion to modify, plus $10,000, and unlimited access to TRD catalogue of accessories for their modifications. Tony Yuen and his team of eight have chosen the Scion XB to customize. Their design is titled Anarchy and will feature a body kit and spoiler, with 19″ custom wheels, full black suede interior with blue accent lighting, and features a 32″ LED LCD TV. Performance modifications include a supercharger, big brake kit, strut tower brace, sway bars, and an exhaust system. The winner will have their creation on display at this year’s SEMA (specialty equipment market association show) in Las Vegas. Join me in wishing our B.C. team good luck!

VERDICT

Very unique vehicle and easily stands out. I could see this vehicle becoming one of the more heavily accessorized vehicles out there.
